“Another glorious day in which one seems to be dissolved and absorbed and sent pulsing onward we know not where.”
Visionary, ecstatic writing from John Muir, the Dunbar-born ‘father of the conservation movement.’
The John Muir Trust owns and cares for large tracts of Scottish wild land of unparalleled beauty and grandeur, in Skye, Ben Nevis, the far north west of Sutherland and elsewhere, and I had a job to photograph it.
Such intense, almost mystical sensibilities have influenced popular landscape photography too. It is easy to overlook that the natural world is political, and the question of who owns, accesses, lives on, profits from and makes use of land is a contested issue.
